The new facility has a 200 person serving capacity, meets all Anti-terrorism and Force Protection requirements, and garnered LEED Gold certification. A 2,500sf kitchen supports an indoor seating area of 1,800sf and an additional 1,600sf of outdoor patio seating for good-weather months. An entry area connects two entry points with restroom and hand washing facilities and leads directly to the servery queuing area. Some of the design strategies used to achieve LEED Gold included: Generous daylighting and views in the dining spaces; Rainwater harvesting from the roof to support vegetated areas; Targeted use of regionally-available materials such as masonry, concrete and wood; Targeted use of materials with high recycled content; An evaporative cooling system and variable speed high-efficiency air handlers; Continuous exterior insulation; LED lighting with daylighting controls; On-site retention of all runoff
